Description
Gender is a societal construct that is toxic and has negative emotional, physical and/or psychological impact on people, especially those who fall outside of what is constructed as “normal.” Trans folx, specifically, folx of color and more specifically Black trans folx, are overly misdiagnosed with mental health issues due to the lack of cultural competency. In this presentation, we will deconstruct gender constructs through a trauma informed lens, to create safer spaces for folx who identify within and/or are exploring their trans identity, while learning how to identify and eradicate our own internalized biases. This training provides a lens that clinicians can use to provide a safer and affirming space for their trans, nonbinary, gender nonconforming and/or cisgender clients.
